Advocacy: ABA Study “Practicing Law in the Pandemic and Moving Forward” identifies pandemic related challenges and best practices for the legal profession

By Roberta (Bobbi) Liebenberg and Stephanie Scharf

Roberta (Bobbi) Liebenberg and Stephanie Scharf , in collaboration with the ABA, have issued a new report, “Practicing Law in the Pandemic and Moving Forward,” which is based on a nationwide survey of the legal profession. The survey of over 4,200 ABA members found that the pandemic has had a significant impact on the legal profession. In particular, it has greatly exacerbated the disproportionate burdens and pressures that women lawyers, particularly those with young children, and lawyers of color were already facing. The Report also sets forth data- based best practices to assist legal employers as we emerge from the pandemic and to develop new approaches to create a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion and transparency.

This report is an important contribution to the conversation about how the legal profession can best serve lawyers, clients and the community by improving diversity, equity and inclusion. COSAL is grateful to Bobbi for her work and for sharing it with us.
