Statement from COSAL President Gregory Asciolla upon the removal of the two Democratic Commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission:
“The Trump Administration’s illegal attempt to remove Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya is a blatant attack on the Commission’s integrity and independence. Congress established the FTC to arrest rising economic concentration and the monopolistic practices that increase prices, harm consumers, and sap our economy’s dynamism. This move is also a betrayal of the bipartisan support that antitrust enforcement has historically enjoyed. Commissioners Slaughter and Bedoya both have a long history of fighting for American consumers, workers, and small businesses—our country will be worse off without their leadership at the FTC. We condemn this unconstitutional power grab and remain steadfast in our unwavering support for robust antitrust enforcement.”
